In Parshat Yitro (19:4) it is written: “You have seen what I did to Egypt and that I have borne you on the wings of eagles and brought you to Me”.

Many beautiful messages are learnt from this verse among them a teaching by Rav Shmuel Tayib ztk’l. He explains the words “… brought you to Me” as meaning that we can interact with Hashem directly at all times. The Chatam Sofer ztk’l teaches a brilliant insight into the idea of the eagle in this verse. Although this bird carries all four signs of impurity, nonetheless even if Klal Yisrael acts in an impure fashion Hashem will continuously seek our closeness.

Rav Levi Yitzchok m’Berditchev ztk’l explains that although the feathers of the eagle fall off at the end of each year they are replaced by new ones. Klal Yisrael has the same ability to renew their bond with Hashem no matter where they stood or currently stand.

The RamChal ztk’l writes that on Har Sinai the Jewish People received the unique power to send shock waves to the universe. Living a life of Torah and mitzvot sends pulse waves throughout the world and has a massive effect on every facet of existence. Our choices have eternal effects. What a Jew chooses to involve herself in on one side of the world weaves harmony into the universe.

B’H may we stand proud and devoted this Shavuot and rededicate our lives to living faithfully with Hashem and stay loyal to the words of the Torah, Amen.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Bracha Perl bat Yocheved, a four year old recently diagnosed with cancer.  May Hashem shower her and everyone in need of yeshuot and nechamot b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

3 Fundamental Messages for Shavuot

As well as receiving the Torah itself on Har Sinai, the Jewish people also received three fundamental messages which were implanted into Jewish consciousness:

1) We left slavery and entered a state of freedom, thereby travelling from darkness to light. Every Jew can traverse this road – leaving a place of helplessness and travelling to a state of hope. On an emotional level, helplessness occurs when we feel despairing, apathetic or hopeless in the face of our difficulties. This outlook is essentially an imprisonment of the mind. In contrast, Matan Torah lifted us out of this mode of restricted thought. Receiving the Torah represented a message of hope to the Jewish people that all is good and everything that happens is supervised personally by Hashem for our own good.

2) Hashem gave us a glimpse of His magnificent world system, Hashem’s intimate Master plan. This was the first time in history that Hashem openly revealed His love for us by honoring us to co-partner with Him. In presenting us with His instruction manual for life, Hashem was giving us a Divine gift; a peek into the Divine blueprint of cause-and-effect.

3) Hashem gifted us with genuine healing from all ailments. The gift of Torah is a happy, spiritual, emuna-filled life. Hashem is everything and everything is Hashem. The best way to reciprocate to Hashem is to use His gift of Torah with simcha, studying it and occupying our life with mitzvot. By doing so, we give Hashem back 100% of ourselves.

Yet the most amazing thing is that studying and practicing Torah unravels a chain of events which in themselves are an even greater gift. First, we receive Hashem’s wisdom. Then, we benefit from internalizing and integrating this wisdom into our lives. Finally, our love for Hashem intensifies and we are left with a strong desire to connect with Him. This connection is the greatest pleasure we can receive in this World.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Chagit Renana bat Sara that her test results come back with a clean bill of health.  May Hashem shower her and all Klal Yisrael with health and happiness b’rachamim, b’karov, Amen.

SCRUMPTIOUS CHEESECAKE

vegan-pumpkin-cheesecake

Ingredients:

For crust bottom:
  • 100 grams cold butter cut into cubes
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 Tbsp. cold water
  • 1 ½ cups of white flour
  • ½ tsp. baking powder
Mix all ingredients for crust in mixer, if possible.  Flatten onto the bottom of 9×13 pan. Poke holes with fork to allow steam to escape.    Bake for 10 minutes in 170 degrees Celsius/350 degrees fahrenheit oven until the crust is golden brown and a bit firm.  Allow to cool before pouring cheese mix onto crust. Lower oven temperature to 150 degree Celsius/300 degrees fahrenheit..
For cheesecake mix:
  • 750 grams of G’vina Levana (Israeli Spreadable cheese)
  • 1 ¼ cup of white sugar
  • 5 eggs separated (separate while cold, whip while room temp.)
  • 1/3 cup corn flour
  • 2/3 cup vanilla instant pudding mix powder
  • 2  tsp. vanilla extract
  • 200 grams sour cream
  • 1 Tbsp. white sugar
Mix corn flour & vanilla pudding together. Mix cheese, egg yolks and vanilla extract until thoroughly blended (by hand or mixer).       Whip egg whites with sugar until stiff.  Delicately fold the egg whites into the cheese blend in small amounts by using a plastic spatula. When you have mixed in approx. ½ the egg white quantity, start to alternate into the cheese blend the corn flour/vanilla mix.  Pour onto the pre-baked crust and bake for approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes.  Suggestion:  Lightly cover the cake with aluminum foil for the first hour and then continue to bake without cover for remaining 50 minutes.  Remove from oven.  Mix sour cream with 1 Tbsp. of white sugar and spread over cake.  Bake for an additional 10 minutes.  Cover in saran wrap and let cool in refrigerator for a minimum of 24 hours.  Can cover top with cookie/biscuit crumbs, jelly mixed with fruit, whipped cream, fruit…
You can never add too much positive spiritual energy into your endeavors … even into your cooking.  It simply makes everything you prepare in your kitchen taste better; taste Heavenly!Cheesecake is not a ‘must’ (well, maybe for some :)) in our diet.  However it is a chance to say to others who enjoy it: I LOVE YOU – you are so sweet. They will feel your love when you bake with loving intentions. This and all food will then become a messenger of love and blessing to those who dine on it.  Please send me your comments and thoughts.  I would love to get your feedback.

As told by Rabbanit Yemima Mizrachi shtichye’:

No getting angry on Shavuot!  The AriZal writes that whoever gets angry on Shavuot reduces his Torah for the whole year!!!  The wisdom he is supposed to get is reduced

Read tehillim on Shavuot before going to sleep and fall asleep while reading.  Wake yourself up and continue to read a bit more tehillim until you keep falling asleep. Then close the tehillim and go to sleep. It is as if you are still reading Tehillim while you are sleeping. Our tehillim is like 5 Chumshei Torah.

Decorate your home with greenery.  Place flowers on either side of your entrance doorpost to your home and recite the passuk from Tehillim 92:13 through the end 16, “Tzaddik k’tamar….” Have the intent that your children should be decorated with righteousness and grown straight in the Torah path.

Put a dish on honey on the dining table from the beginning of the Chag until the end.  The Torah is sweet as honey; may it be Hashem’s will that we have that sweetness always, Amen.

Say new Torah insights as much as possible during the evening and morning seudot.  It is a segula that the wellsprings of wisdom will be renewed for us the whole year.

Have your husband buy you perfume!  The most subtle wisdom comes down from Heaven – the very essence of feminine wisdom, says the Pele Yoetz ztk’l.  Each utterance that Hashem said when He brought Torah down into the world came with a fragrance.  Perfume has a special meaning, a femininity.

After the meal Shavuot evening the Heiliger Alshich ztk’l teaches give a giant prayer for coupling and closeness of heart.  Ask for your true love match and if you are already married for Shalom Bayit.  This is the night when Leah Imeinu goes out to meet Yaakov after giving the mandrakes dudayim to Rachel Imeinu.  From then on she becomes his married wife and Yaakov loves her immensely.  That night she conceives Yissachar.  Wisdom and Torah are only possible when a great strong bond connects husband and wife!

In the morning Mother’s should go over to her children and cover their heads with a small towel or blanket and bless them while they are sleeping the Birkat HaCohanim, the Priestly Blessing.  Just as Hashem covered all of Ahm Yisrael’s head with a cloud in the morning at the time the Torah was given (the Rokeach).

When the Aseret Hadibrot are read in shul it is as though we are personally receiving them once again.  Healing comes down to the world and so it is the time to ask for a refuah shleimah for all.

In the afternoon, daven for all of Ahm Yisrael who has gone astray from the Torah path.  On Shavuot afternoon, Batya Pharoah’s daughter reaches out and saves Moshe Rabbeinu from the Nile moments before he was going to drown.  Since then, at that time, it’s possible to pull out the great terrible metaphoric Nile from those children or relatives who have gone far, far away, r”l.

WISHING EVERYONE AN EMUNA FILLED CHAG ENVELOPED WITH A SHOWER OF LOVE AND KISSES FROM HASHEM YITBORACH!!!

It is Sivan we are finally ready to meet our groom, HaKadosh Baruch Hu.

Our souls have ripened, they have grown wide and deep during the weeks of the Omer; we have traveled far and await the loving embrace of Hashem. The flowers are blooming, the fish are retreating to deeper waters, the birds songs envelop the air – we have finally arrived at this moment.  Our soul like a flower has opened up to receiving Hashem’s Divine law and love.

On Shavuot we go back to eating the food we ate when we emerged into this world – milk.

We were innocent then only desiring tender loving care – a Motherly and Fatherly love and hug.  Hashem – You know me better than any other, for I am made from a spark of You.  Help me break free from all that entangles me so I may once again stand closely with You. Dress me in Your light and surround me by Your roses.

I am back in the desert awaiting to step under our wedding canopy together with my brethren… Here we meet once again.  This year I have revealed more of myself to me, I have uncovered so much which has pulled me behind.  Let us renew our vows.  I stand with You.  I firmly stand ready to enter our covenant with new resolve.

You are my beloved and I give myself to You in faithfulness!

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Asher Yekutiel ben Chana Bayla.  He is a teenage boy recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.  Hashem please shower Your compassion onto Asher Yekutiel ben Chana Bayla amongst all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov v’b’rachamim, Amen.
